CUPPING & GUA SHA
What are Cupping & Gua Sha?
Cupping and Gua Sha are traditional healing techniques within the framework of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that work to release stagnation, promote circulation, and restore balance within the body. Both methods are designed to encourage the free flow of qi and blood, supporting the body’s natural ability to heal itself.

Both cupping and Gua Sha can produce mild redness or markings that fade within a few days, representing the body’s process of releasing stagnation and restoring internal balance.
Cupping
Cupping involves placing specialized glass or silicone cups on the skin to create a gentle suction. This suction draws circulation to the surface, loosens tight muscles, and helps release blockages of qi and blood. While it’s often recognized for its signature circular marks, these temporary discolorations are not bruises but a result of increased blood flow to the area, signifying the release of stagnation beneath the surface.
Cupping is used to treat a variety of conditions, including muscle tension, pain, inflammation, respiratory issues, and fatigue. It is also beneficial for overall relaxation and detoxification.

Gua Sha
Gua Sha is another ancient TCM technique that involves using a smooth-edged tool, traditionally made of jade, to gently scrape the skin in rhythmic strokes. This motion stimulates microcirculation, releases muscle tension, and moves lymphatic fluid, helping the body eliminate waste and toxins. Though often applied to the back, neck, and shoulders, Gua Sha can be performed on various parts of the body and even the face — where it is valued for improving circulation, reducing puffiness, and enhancing the skin’s natural glow.
